Continuous Discharge Fates (CDFATE)

Continuous Discharge Fates (CDFATE)
Description

The CDFATE model simulates jet dynamics and entrainment of initial discharge, density driven spreading, passive transport and turbulent diffusion of a dredged material discharge plume, particularly from CDFs or onshore placement.  The model is based on the U.S. EPA CORMIX mixing zone modeling system. The model provides estimates of the plume size and constituent concentrations in the receiving water.  Estimates of water column concentrations and dilutions are often needed to determine mixing zone requirements and compliance with water quality standards.

Software

Current Version:  1.0

The CDFATE modeling software is available at no charge.  The CDFATE model Version 1.0 is available to run in either a DOS-based operating environment or a 16-bit Windows environment such as Windows XP.  The DOS-based model is called DROPMIX while the 16-bit model is called CDFATE.  Both packages produce identical results.  Both software packages are available as self-extracting executable files and can be downloaded from https://dots.el.erdc.dren.mil/products.cfm?Topic=model&Type=drgmat.  Until CDFATE can be updated, the DOS package must use a DOS emulator such as DOSBox to operate CDFATE on Windows based 64-bit operating systems.  DOSBox can be downloaded at https://www.dosbox.com.  Alternatively, 16-bit Windows CDFATE package can be run on older Windows operating systems such as Windows XP or older Windows operating systems.
